What are some of the factors that could have caused Dorian to change his attitude towards Hedonism?(Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses)?
The fact that James Sibyl wanted to kill Dorian made his attitude change a great deal in this chapter. He wasn't the same free mined " i do what a please", Dorian that he had been in the past tense of the novel. "Ther is no one with whom i would not change places, Harry." This is proof that he wasn't as fond of himself, or his own life. "Its monstrous wings seem to wheel in the leaden ari around me." This quote explains the way Dorian felt about the terror James Sibly placed in his heart. Dorian said his own personality has become a burden to him which contrasts how the attitude was negative toward hedonism.
The factor of James Vane watching him trying to kill him in the chapter had a lot to do with why his attitude changed. I think he feels as though maybe the death of Vane is a sign for him to become a better person and not make decisions based on pleasure but smarter decisions. In the text, he looked at the body of Vane and began to cry with tears of joy because he knew he was safe. His death was more like a lesson learned for Dorian to change his ways and his attitude towards the pursuit of pleasure.
James Vane getting killed trying to spy on him, that is what change his attitude from being an openminded person. He feels that sense escaped deatth thr first time is why he need to change. He needed to stop doing stuff for pleasure and do it for good.He was really scared for his life.He thought that James was goin to get to him, But he was saved by an accident. He looked at hiss body and cried cause he knew he was safe.
When James Vane came around and tried to kill dorian for the death of his sister 18 years ago. He realized what this drug use and evilness was doing to him. He had became a cruel person. He could be killed for all this and wouldn't be able to fix it. When James was killed in the hunting accident he knew it was time to actually find happiness in life other than the little pleasures in life that could make you or break you. He was terrified for his life, it was like he could see death walk through the yard in the forest.
When james came searching for Dorian to kill him because of his sisters death 18 years ago mad him change his attitude. But he was releaved when he found out that James was killed in a hunting accident. He realized that the drugs were not worth the pleasure anymore he was now searching for happiness.
